June 1 - There's been good and bad news for Chinese players at the French
Open. China's top seed Li Na has progressed to the third round, but
compatriot Sun Tiantian crashed out in her first round match.
16th seed Li Na of China sealed her second round victory at Roland Garros
after eliminating France's Pauline Parmentier. After dropping the second
set, Li Na recomposed herself to finally win the decider. The 6-3, 3-6,
6-4 victory sent her into the last 32, marking her best performance in
the French Open.
But for another Chinese player it was a disappointingly early exit from
the event. Sun Tiantian played her rain-delayed first round match against
Dominika Cibulkova of Slovakia. But the Athens Olympic doubles champion
lost it 6-4, 6-4, and now has to pin her hopes on the doubles matches.
