Sacrificial rites to the sea

www.chinanews.cn 2005-03-21 15:41:21

The largest ever sacrificial rites to the sea in northern China formally
started at Zhouge Village, Jimo, Qingdao on Saturday. The 500-year-old
sacrificial rites have been passed down through generations of fishermen.
The Chinese government has transformed the traditional folk custom and
worship ceremony into a cultural activity. Every year, it attracts over
100,000 visitors from home and abroad.
